Applications Development
As a recent graduate, I have had the opportunity to participate in various technical projects through personal projects and hackathons. I enjoy picking out specific problematic issues in a day-to-day activities to provide and formulate a technical solution. With a curiosity in learning new and upcoming technologies, I seek solutions where I can implement them to resolve possible hassles that everyone else might be facing.
Projects Highlights
Get Your Stuff Together – GYST is cross-platform desktop application that allows our intended users (small businesses) to keep track of their inventories. After short discussions with our friends and family members who ventured out on starting small businesses, we narrowed down the similar difficulty they are facing being a business owner while having a full-time position is their ability to keep track of their inventory for the side business. Most of them have the tendency to not being able to restock their items before they ran out. Once they did, it would end up in them going through the hassle to run around and/or unable to get their order on time. In order to help mitigate this issue, our 4 members team decided to come up with GYST. GYST implemented Electron.js as we aimed for a cross-platform application. We also added functionalities that allow users to scan their receipts of purchase to update their inventory more conveniently as well as building charts and graphs that shows which items are running low.
FLEX – A Multimedia Entertainment Service
With the rise of different media services, users are “forced” to subscribe to different services in order to view the movie/tv shows of choice. Flex is a one stop shop for fans of movies and tv shows without the need to subscribe to several platforms. Flex is built with React.js and TheMovieDatabase API along with Firebase for user management.
Hackathons
BeachHacks 5.0 – Study Now, Play Later
BeachHacks 5.0 is the first 24-hour hackathon I had the opportunity to take part. Navigating through the first hackathon while being off campus, I was driven to learn new technologies and create memorable highlights in my college journey. With a strong intention in learning more about Google Chrome Extension, I had decided to look into a potential issue where I could craft my technical solution. Study Now, Play Later is a chrome extension that allows students/workers to track their time of productivity. While the extension is being applied, the clock would start running once enabled. In addition, the extension would also block potential distracting sites, allowing a better productivity period for users.
BeachHacks 6.0 – E-BCard – Winner for Best Use of Google Cloud
Inspired from a personal experience while interning at Yamaha Motor Corporation, I was motivated to create a database to store digital version of business cards. In addition, I hope the application could potentially allow student to easily store and access a digital version of their resumes at networking events. Driven by the uprising QR code technology, I decided to implement it as part of our solution where we can conveniently scan the QR code of the resume/business cards which would be stored in Google Cloud Platform. The new technology would allow us to promote the eco-friendly environment where we could potentially reduce the use of paper printing as well. I was honored to lead this 24-hour project with my two fellow teammates that I brought together who were dedicated and determined to bring this product to life.
