Work Experience
Upon the completion of my GCE O Levels in Singapore, I decided to start working part-time in different industries to find out where my interest lies while pursuing my diploma in Leisure and Events Management at Temasek Polytechnic in 2015. I gained an immeasurable amount of customer services and interpersonal skills working in the F&B and Fashion industries respectively. Despite still not knowing which area I want to deep dive into, I know which ones I didn’t want to. I made my very first own decision to travel across the globe all by myself in the hope to find out what other choices do I have. My first programs in C++, “Hello, World” and a treasury game made me realize where my passion lies after a year struggling with decisions at El Camino College. Soon after, I was building day-to-day application simulations of movie tickets machine, lottery game, vending machine, bank account transactions, etc. With the embers of tech growing as the days went by, I graduated with the Associate of Science in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, successfully transferred to California State University Long Beach to further my studies for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
In 2021, I interned at Yamaha Motor Corporation in Cypress, California as a Business Intelligence Developer. I worked on generating reports with SAP Enterprise Resources Planning using the ETL process. During my 3-month internship, I created an inventory loading status page for in-house use as well as third party businesses. The status page is being used as a tracker for businesses to keep track of orders and the availability of the inventory. Alongside, I worked with other interns on a project to promote the visibility of the company digitally.
In my last semester in 2022, I had the opportunity to work part time at Adopt A Highway Maintenance Corporation as a Junior Web Developer. I was responsible for modernizing an existing web browser for internal and the Department of Transportation usage. Upon graduation, I have been working as a Software Engineer for FPT Corporation, the largest information technology service company in Vietnam with its core business focusing on consulting, providing and deploying technology and telecommunications services and solutions.
Community Service
During my time as a college student, I had the opportunity to be part of different communities as a female engineer. I was elected as the Webmaster for CSULB Society of Women Engineers (SWE) in AY20/21. I got to work with other female engineering students in bringing career and self development projects to the virtual campus during COVID-19. I came up with different approaches to keep our social media running and active, especially during Week of Welcome. I remodeled SWE website as well as created virtual posters about events on Instagram.
In the same year, I started working as an EXCEL (Excellence through a Community of Engaged Learners) Peer Mentor for the HSI (Hispanic-Serving Institutions)-STEM program. As a peer mentor, I helped welcoming and providing advices for freshmen and transfer students to the CSULB campus. As part of the role, I also provide tutoring services for the College of Engineering (COE) for the lower and upper divisions Computer Science courses. The role has fulfilled my hope in igniting the passion for the STEM world, in particularly Computer Science, for students who have just started college or figuring out what path they want to follow in life.
An additional notable role during my time as a student is being a brother of Theta Tau, a co-ed professional engineering fraternity, Xi Epsilon chapter. Being a member of Theta Tau, we strive to promote community services as well as brotherhood among our brothers and the potential members. We host various profession development sessions for our members, inviting alumni in the workforce for networking events, and make great efforts in preparing our brothers for the foreseeable post graduation challenges. As a member, I was honored to be the Chair of Recruitment and Outreach Committee for Fall 2021. I took charge of a 6-member committee and worked with 4 other committee chairs in delegating tasks for RUSH Week, one of the most prominent events for our club. In order to keep a minimal budget, I took over designing the club poster and postcard for the semester recruitment season via Adobe Photoshop. Throughout the semester, I worked on monthly newsletters where we share events that our brothers were engaging in as well as our notable achievements, individually and as a whole.
Upon graduation, I have been actively participating and contributing to profession networking events and conferences as a volunteer or attendee, specifically gearing towards female engineers and Vietnamese Students Association. I hope to keep myself up to date and explore different ways to contribute in the tech advancement era.
